Core book
We have lots of favourite stories at Nursery. When introducing a new book, we look carefully at the key features. The front cover gives us lots of information about the book including the title, author and the picture is often a clue about what the story might be about. For Two weeks we focus on a 'core book'. By doing this it helps us to really understand the story and learn lots about the characters.
After reading the book it enables us to join in with lots of fun activities based around the story. This helps us to learn in all areas of our curriculum.
BANG, POP, WHIZZ, BOOM, WHOOSH!
We have enjoyed talking lots about bonfire night, we had a go at creating our own firework patterns using glitter and crayons. We even had a go at moving around like a fire work ...





We're going on a bear hunt ...
We're going on a bear hunt, we're going to catch a BIG one, we're not scared!
We have really enjoyed sharing this story. This story teaches us about important lessons and about facing your fears and pushing through obstacles. We have enjoyed acting out the story and going on our own bear hunt as well as lots of other bear activities ...






Remembrance Day ...
We have been learning about Remembrance Day. Remembrance Day is a special day when we think about people who helped make our world a better place. People wear poppies to show we remember the people who have helped us.







Children in Need ...
Everyone wore something yellow or brown and made a donation to the Children In Need charity. We had lots fun learning the Children In Need Pudsey dance and joining in with lots of spotty activities ...





Tidy by Emily Gravett ...
This is a great Autumn story about a very tidy badger, who goes a bit too far when tidying up the forest. We have enjoyed joining in with lots of autumn activities based around the story.















Visit from Ann the dentist ...
We have been learning all about taking care of our teeth, today Ann came to talk to us about how we can do this, we talked about how to brush our teeth and which foods and drinks are good and bad for our teeth. We also had a go at practicing brushing some giant teeth!



Owl babies by Martin Waddell ...
This is a lovely tale about three baby owls Sarah, Percy and Bill who woke up one night to find that their mum was missing!
Leaving them to worry about and wonder about her return. This story is great for helping us to understand and reassure us when we are faced with our own fears of separation. We have enjoyed joining in with lots of owl activities ...







Owl visit ...
Today we were very lucky to get a visit from some real owls, this tied in nicely with the owl babies story. The barn owls Paddy and Pez enjoyed meeting us too! We enjoyed learning lots about them and we also got to gently stroke them. Their feathers felt very soft.



Count down to Christmas ...
Today we opened the first day of our advent calendar, when we opened it there was a chocolate coin inside!


Wear something red day ...
Today everyone wore something red and donated chocolate to the Christmas tombola which will be taking place next week ...

The Christmas pine by Julia Donaldson ...
Deep in s snowy wood stands a little pine tree with a special destiny. This is a lovely Christmas story that is actually based on a true story. The Christmas pine is a gift from Norway to the people of Britain for their support during WWII. Every year one perfect pine tree is chosen to travel from the forests abroad by boat to stand proudly in Trafalgar square.
Following on from this story we have been busy joining in with lots of christmassy activities ...












Christmas stay & play ...
Everyone was invited to our anual Christmas stay & play. We enjoyed joining in with lots of festive activities. We made magic reindeer food, built chimney's for Santa, made lollipop snowmen, played musical instruments and sang Christmas songs and made Christmas decoartions. What a lovely time we had!

Today everyone wore their Christmas jumpers and donated money to
'Save the children' charity ...






Visit to Grove care home ...
Today some of us went to visit Grove care home to spread some Christmas cheer. It was lovely meeting all the people that lived there and i think they enjoyed meeting us too, i think they especially enjoyed listening to us singing lots of Christmas songs and eating the yummy mince pies that we gave them ...






Christmas party day ...
What a wonderful time we all had at the Christmas party! We enjoyed watching a magician who had lots of magic tricks! We enjoyed showing off our best dance moves as we boogied to lots of Christmas songs. We also enjoyed eating lots of yummy food and to finish the day off we had a special visitor ... it was SANTA!!

The Stickman by Julia Donaldson ...
This story is about a cheerful stick who lives in a family tree with his stick lady love and their stick children, but he gets lost during a jog and embarks on a long perilous journey, being used as a toy, pooh-stick etc.
We have enjoyed making our own stickmen and taking them on lots of exciting adventures, we also enjoyed joining in with lots of more activities based around the story ...
















One snowy night by Nick Butterworth ...
Percy the park keeper always feeds the animals in the park where he lives, but one cold snowy night Percy discovers that his friends need more than food!
After listening to this story we enjoyed joining in with lots of activities. We acted out the story with our friends, made patterns in the snow, designed snowmen, made story maps etc.














How to catch a dragon by Adam Wallace ...
Learning about the Chinese New Year is exciting! This festival is rich in traditions and celebrations. One of the highlights is the dragon dance, which signifies good luck and prosperity for the coming year.

Chinese new year dance ....
The Chinese New Year dragon dance is a lively celebration where performers mimic the movements of a dragon, often accompanied by music. In our music and movement session, we had the opportunity to dance like the dragon. We played various musical instruments to create lively music, which helped bring the dragon to life through our movements. Additionally, we used colourful scarves to enhance our dance, moving them around just like the dragon did. It was an enjoyable experience for everyone involved!


Stay & play ...
We had lots of fun at Stay & Play! We enjoyed joining in with a variety of activities based around the Chinese New Year.
From making beautiful lanterns to learning about traditional Chinese customs, every moment was filled with excitement. We loved making dragon masks and joining in with dragon dancing.
It was a wonderful way to celebrate and learn about different cultures together!








The Three little pigs ...
We enjoyed sharing this classic tale, which teaches us valuable lessons about hard work, preparation, and the consequences of choices. It emphasizes that diligence and foresight lead to success.
We had a wonderful time joining in with lots of activities based around the story. One of the highlights was designing and building our own houses, which allowed us to be creative and work together.
Additionally, we had lots of fun acting out the story with our friends! This experience helped us understand the characters and the moral of the tale even better.

World Book Day Celebration
To celebrate World Book Day, everyone wore the colour green and listened to the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We also participated in lots of activities based around the story.
One of the highlights was wearing the caterpillar hats. We had so much fun creating them and showing them off to our friends! Additionally, we enjoyed having our faces painted, transforming ourselves into the hungry caterpillar from the story.
It was a lovely day filled with creativity and imagination, celebrating the joy of reading!
